It’s time to back the proposed planning application that reflects the need for substantial invest in the club’s facilities, broaden the sports offering available to young and old across both genders for future generations.
Specifically for Old Cranleighan Hockey Club (OCHC) the plan includes a 2nd astro pitch which will be fully funded by OCHC. The aim is a need to provide better hockey facilities, greater training opportunities, de-risk our reliance on external pitch hires and reconnect our members back to their club at Thames Ditton.
With pitch space used 6pm – 9.30pm Monday to Friday OCHC have maximised all the pitch space available to train our U10s – U18s and 17 adult teams (7 women / 10 men) on week nights. The Men’s section, including our talented juniors, have this season had to travel to Cobham weekly to put in the training needed to raise their playing standards and remain competitive within the top English Hockey National League.
In order to deliver up to 9 home league matches on a Saturday and coaching to 600+ juniors on a Sunday Old Cranleighan HC must hire 2 external pitches across the weekend which has large financial implications for the club. It also means a large percentage of our juniors do not get the opportunity to train on a weekend at their club and therefore feel disconnected to our amazing club house.
We do all the above through our Volunteer Committees, our Volunteer Parent Coaches and we also invest our membership fees back into our playing members by delivering quality training and match day coaching through a successful Professional Coaching model.
