How Can I Help?

The Old Cranleighan Hockey Club is founded and maintained on the efforts of our army of amazing volunteers, and without them the club wouldn’t function. We encourage all our members to get involved in volunteering. Whether it’s umpiring games, assisting with social events, coaching our juniors, selling kit, managing the daily running of the club, or simply cheering our teams on.

And you don’t need to be a member of the hockey club to help out. We welcome mums, dads, partners, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends and anyone willing to support the club!

Below are our current and ongoing roles. If you can give your time and think you can help support us, we would love to hear from you.

Umpires – Voluntary Role(s)
Currently 15 senior sides and some weekends up to 20+ Junior sides currently push back each weekend and umpires are fundamental to that. If you are a qualified umpire and can support us please let Simon Marshall, our Umpire Liaison Officer, know so we can continue to build our pool of umpires. There is no requirement to commit yourself each week.

FREE Umpire Courses – If you wish to develop your umpiring skills through formal training then England Hockey are offering two online courses (see details below). The club will refund any course costs and details of courses available to book are available via the England Hockey Hockey Hub website.

An Introduction to Umpiring – It is aimed at those with little or no umpiring knowledge and would be suitable for parent helpers, teachers or young leaders.

Level 1 Qualification – It is aimed at those looking to umpire lower level 11 a-side games for their clubs, schools or universities and is the second step on the Umpire Development Pathway.

Please contact Helen Hawes (helen.hawes@btinternet.com) in advance of booking who can assist you with any queries.

Junior Coaches & Parent Team Reps – Voluntary Role(s)
We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to support our growing Junior section. Whether it is supporting lead coaches to facilitate planned training sessions or acting as a team rep to help assist arrangements for matches. Please get in touch with Jon East (ochcjuniorsliaison@gmail.com) if you are keen and want to find out more.
