Junior Indoor Hockey Review

OCHC Juniors participated in the UK Indoor Hockey Championships held at the K2 Arena during the period between Christmas and New Year. This tournament is renowned for its competitiveness, and the club managed to secure entry across multiple age groups, including the u10 boys and girls, u12 boys and girls, and u14 girls teams. The club’s focus on indoor hockey over the past year culminated in this significant event, offering juniors their first taste of competitive action with official umpires and boards.

The tournament featured teams from various regions of England, including notable clubs like Cambridge City, HC Knole Park, Braintree, Surbiton, and Canterbury. Matches throughout the weekend resulted in a mixed bag of outcomes for OCHC, with wins, draws, and losses across different age categories.

Despite the varied results, the tournament marked a resounding success for the club, emphasizing its commitment to indoor hockey development. The experience provided valuable learning opportunities for all participants, helping to instill a deeper understanding of the game and competitive spirit. Additionally, the event showcased the club’s dedication to fostering indoor hockey talent across different age groups, underscoring its intention to embed indoor hockey within its cultural fabric.

The success of the tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support of several individuals. Special thanks go to Simon Grant, Jon East, Cato Choi, Gerry Davis, James King, and Graham Grace for their efforts in facilitating team selection, coaching, and managing the children throughout the competition. Their contributions were instrumental in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all involved.

With the conclusion of the tournament, we’re already setting our sights on the future. Plans for next season include further training opportunities and initiatives aimed at expanding indoor hockey participation across all age groups. By continuing to prioritise indoor hockey development, the club aims to solidify its position as a prominent advocate for the sport while fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie among its members.

The UK Indoor Hockey Championships served as a pivotal moment for us, highlighting our dedication to indoor hockey development and showcasing our competitive prowess on a national stage. The tournament’s success, coupled with the invaluable experiences gained, sets a promising foundation for the club’s continued growth and success in the years to come. With gratitude to all involved, the club eagerly anticipates returning stronger and better prepared for future challenges.
