Club Captains Rant – November 2015

Nothing To Rant About

It’s really irritating for a curmudgeonly old git like yours truly when there isn’t enough to complain about. The weather’s been good, the new goals look great, the pitch is playing well, players seem to have got to grips with the new rules, Eds has stopped appealing every umpiring decision and the Aussies lost in the rugby final. Happy Days.

One major negative is the amount of subs still outstanding despite Smudger’s best efforts. Penalties now in force for all miscreants. Barnstormers win the gold medal for best payers – well done lads. There are also still some kit malfunctions in the men’s section – white shorts and club socks please at all times on the pitch. Kit available from Helen Hawes or socks are for sale behind the bar. Also, I had a disappointing response to the cry for attendees on the recent England Hockey level 1 umpiring course. Next time there are no volunteers to umpire games please bear this in mind.

Finally, it’s the Pagans golf day at Walton Heath this Friday. Despite being defending champion I am without a partner. 18 holes plus boozy lunch. Any takers?
